He’s one of few South African stars who are popular across the national spectrum. Bryan Habana is adored by men and women (and especially children), black and white, whether they’re rugby, soccer or jukskei fans and even if they aren’t particularly friendly towards the Bulls.
He’s also a hot favourite of YOU readers - and the three YOU Spectacular awards he’s won in the past two years in our celeb popularity contest prove it. Readers’ votes determine the winner.
On and off the field Bryan is a true gentleman. He talks comfortably and authoritatively about rugby but mention his private life and the hotshot Bok wing sidesteps the issue as deftly as he dodges on-field opponents. So it took a lot of sweet-talking to persuade him and fiancée Janine Viljoen to be photographed for our cover and to tell how he popped the question in December. And this week YOU really scored! Our thanks to Bryan and Janine for taking the time to chat to us.
Many people would love to be able to trump dinner-party conversation with the line, “Well, when I spoke to Brad Pitt . . . “ And our writer Haidee Muller can. She recently flew to Paris for a news conference with Brad and others involved in his latest movie project. She could scarcely calm her racing heart but managed to control herself long enough to write the witty piece that proves she was there (page 14). Just another day in magazine life, hey?
