In YOU of 21 May

FROM YOU EDITOR ESMARE WEIDEMAN
Yippee, another AdVantage ADmag award! This was the news that greeted me as I walked into the office last Friday morning after an all-night flight from London where I’d attended an international magazines conference. YOU and our sister magazine Huisgenoot were voted winners in the general interest magazine category for 2008 - an award we also won in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and we were the runner-up in 2005. Another sister publication, Drum, won the award in 2006 and 2007 - making it a clean sweep for our close-knit family magazines seven years in a row (okay, barring the one runner-up prize).

The AdVantage awards judge magazines on editorial strategy, content, innovation and excellence so it’s always a biggie for the editorial team.

More good news is that our quarterly health magazine, YOU Pulse, has raked in yet another award. Journalist Elise-Marie Tancred received an ATKV-MediaVeertjies award for her in-depth article on rugby injuries in last year’s autumn issue.

Great reads in this issue too. Hope you enjoy them!
