We couldn’t have chosen a better name for the YOU Spectacular when we decided five years ago to create our own red-carpet event to honour South Africa’s most popular celebrities, TV and music stars and sports personalities. Because this year’s event was truly spectacular, with the who’s who of celebville milling around in the most gorgeous outfits while no fewer than six TV crews did interviews for inserts on all the top magazine programmes on the box.
Connie and Shona Ferguson, two of the biggest winners on the night (as they were last year), told me the last time they were out together was at last year’s Spectacular. Clearly it’s a party they don’t miss. And one of Madiba’s granddaughters, Zoleka Mandela, attending with Sekoati Tsubane (Kabelo in 7de Laan), said she had come to support YOU. It was enough to make our hearts swell with pride!
A big thank-you to Emperors Palace, our co-sponsor, and everyone who worked so hard behind the scenes to make this year’s event such a success. As so many there told me, the event has really become one of the most sought-after tickets on the local events calendar.
