Our story about 17-year-old Emile Page’s suicide is a devastating read. Here was a young man from a good home who had everything to live for - he had just been elected head boy for next year at a prominent Pretoria school and seemed to have his future ahead of him.
But from the age of nine Emile had suffered from debilitating depression which no amount of medication or visits to psychiatrists could alleviate. He finally took his life.
It’s easy to think things like this won’t happen to your own kids but if experts are to be believed parents really need a wake-up call. Depression among teens and young children is on the rise - in fact suicide is now the third-highest cause of death among teens worldwide.
