Imagine what OPRAH WINFREY’s wardrobe contains – probably everything from extra-small to extra-extra-large.
The talk-show queen’s weight has fluctuated wildly for years. Now she hopes to end her yo-yo dieting for good and lose the 20 kg she has gained in the past two years with the help of her healthy-lifestyle mentor, Bob Greene, author of The Best Life Diet and The Best Life Diet Cookbook.
“Oprah’s struggle with her weight has become almost mythic,” Bob says. “It’s not just that she’s been so open and honest about it, it’s that millions of people share her story.”
In the 25-plus years he has been helping people to slim down he has noticed a few common traps that cause them to fall off the wagon, he says.
“Believe it or not most people don’t do most of the damage at meals,” he says. “They do it eating throughout the day to comfort themselves and they don’t even register the amount of kilojoules they take in. Oprah doesn’t go crazy at meals but she’ll grab a handful here, there, throughout the day when she’s nervous, stressed or bored.”
The main focus in this diet is making wise food choices, monitoring portion sizes and doing light exercise – so forget kilojoule counting.
And it happens gradually, not overnight.
“Easing in and making adjustments that are palatable – and you’re going to maintain for the rest of your life – I find is kind of the key as to why this plan is different,” Bob says.
