Since the sex-video bombshell Joost van der Westhuizen has sworn repeatedly that he’s not the man snorting drugs with a scantily clad blonde dispensing sexual favours. He has never cheated on his wife or used drugs, he told YOU. (Yes, sometimes the media are badly duped by people who are trying to polish their images.)
But the truth will out and in March former high-jumper Charmaine Gale Weavers told YOU anonymously how she’d had sex with Joost while his wife, Amor, was pregnant. There have also been allegations about other women.
Since then Joost and Amor have taken several public swipes at YOU. Then Joost confessed in his new biography. Yes, he slept with stripper Marilize van Emmenis once. In his publicity blitz to market the book he persisted in maintaining he’d slept with no other woman since his marriage to Amor.
Of course that’s a lie. And in YOU this week Joost tells the whole truth for the first time. Yes, there was more than one session with Marilize. Yes, there were other women. In our interview you’ll find Joost at his most honest - even if you sometimes have to read between the lines.
Also in this issue Charmaine, now showing her face for the first time as Joost’s lover, makes new claims that could further damage his image.
But you know what? Joost is finally taking responsibility for his mistakes. He has made many, he says, and is asking his wife and the country for forgiveness. He wants to be given a chance to rebuild his marriage and his life. I for one think he and Amor deserve this chance - do you?
