In YOU of 26 November

FROM YOU EDITOR ESMARE WEIDEMAN
Where did you watch SA’s triumph in the 1995 Rugby World Cup? With the film Invictus - about Madiba’s influence on that Bok team - opening in SA cinemas next month we’ve launched a new competition: tell us about your memories of that amazing day and you could win R1 000 in time for Christmas.

When we were discussing the idea several colleagues began recalling some great stories. Mine wasn’t as dramatic or funny as some of them but it was very special nonetheless. We watched the match at home in Johannesburg and our daughter was just a year old. I’ll never forget a photo we took of her that day: she wore a little green shirt, clutched a South African flag and sported a single tooth.

When that drop-kick by Joel Stransky sailed through the posts we jumped up and down so much on our wooden floors that the decoder fell off the TV set. The crash had the baby in tears. Mom and several others were in tears too - because we’d won!

You’ll find details of the competition on our Win channel - so let’s hear from you!

* There’s a fun Hippo calendar that comes free with this week’s print issue. Thanks to the folk at Hippo for this useful annual planner - and make sure you get yours.

Happy reading,
Esmaré
